In October, at the Japanese speech contest organized by Viet Nam-Japan University of the Viet Nam National University, Ha Noi, Diep The Khai, a student majoring in Japanese Translation and Interpretation at Da Nang-headquartered Duy Tan University won the second prize.
Khai said that when participating in the Japanese speaking contest, he not only had the opportunity to learn about the unique Japanese culture and people, but also introduced Vietnamese culture and people to Japanese friends.
Every day, Khai spends a lot of time studying and practicing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. “Participating in language competitions, especially speaking contests, helps me gain more skills in using language as well as confidence when standing in front of a crowd. To speak a new language well, you must convey emotions in each word and in the accent as well to easily touch the emotions of the listener," Khai shared.
Having won first prize in the Japanese speaking contest organized by the University of Foreign Language Studies, a member school of the University of Da Nang (UFLS-UD) at the end of November, Nguyen Quang My Hanh, a 4th-year student from the Faculty of Japanese Language and Culture, UFLS-UD, said that through competing at the contest, she wanted to challenge herself and improve her ability to use Japanese, especially presentation and communication skills. These were very important factors that would help students in their future work. Therefore, Hanh considered this an opportunity to practice herself, learn how to prepare content, and organise ideas logically and tightly.
At the same time, through the comments and evaluations of teachers and judges, Hanh recognised her weaknesses in pronunciation and grammar, thereby having a plan to improve and perfect herself.
In addition to the speaking competitions, universities across the city have also organised many language-related activities, creating a playground for students of all majors to have the opportunity to practice through competitions such as speaking the Korean and Chinese languages, organising the Japanese Classical Literature Day programme.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Huu Phuc, the Rector of the UFLS-UD, organising activities related to foreign languages, and Japanese in particular, marked the continuous development of training this university, and Da Nang as a whole.
Over the past year, the UFLS-UD has organised many large-scale activities such as the 2024 Summer Festival, the foreign language speaking competitions in the central region for senior high school pupils, Japanese poetry recitation contest, Japanese singing contest for school students, training course on Japanese teaching methods, successfully organised 10 internship visits to businesses in the city, allowing 48 K2020 students to do paid internships in Japan, creating conditions for six students to receive full and partial scholarships to study abroad in Japan, helping them gain more experience in their future careers and the working environment before graduation.
