Favourite local delicious cakes

DA NANG Today
Published: August 05, 2013

Although there are many cakes made from rice or wheat flour in Da Nang, banh beo (tiny round-cakes), banh uot (wet cakes) and banh loc (steamed clear tapioca cakes in banana leaves) are the popular ones with local people.  These are considered to be dishes like a daily meal instead of rice.  It is easy to find food stalls on local streets which sell the above-named cakes at any time of day.

Banh loc tastes best when it is still hot, and customers can enjoy this delicious dish accompanied by a small bowl of garlic chilli fish sauce.  Thanks to its special taste, this dish can make customers want to enjoy dozens of cakes one after another.

Banh beo and banh uot are served with pounded dried shrimps and sweet fish sauce, on the same tin plate.  Therefore, when enjoying this delicacy, customers will experience a soft, sweet-smelling and oily mix of flavours.

It is very hard to find these delicious dishes with the same delicate flavour in Ho Chi Minh City.  As a result, many Da Nang people who are now living far away from their homeland often ask for the help of their relatives to send these cakes to them to satisfy their needs.
