Enjoying delicious European and Asian foods in the city

DA NANG Today
Published: August 20, 2014

Between January and June, Da Nang welcomed around 1.8 million visitors from both home and abroad.  Of that total, 450,000 were foreigners, mainly from the USA, Australia, Spain, England, Japan and South Korea.  The foreign visitors were very impressed by the variety of European and Asian dishes which are served at the city’s many international-standard restaurants.

Although there are only a few Chinese people living in Da Nang, Chinese cuisine has become popular with local residents.  The Phi Lu I Restaurant at 225 Nguyen Chi Thanh Street, which specialises in Chinese food, is the most popular.  Starting operations 20 years ago, the restaurant was developed by a Chinese-born Vietnamese and it serves a wide range of Chinese specialities, including “sui cao”, “suon chua ngot”, “suon hap xi dau”, “tom/ga xao chua ngot”, and “ga tiem thuoc bac”.

Amongst the luxury restaurants which serve both Vietnamese and international cuisines is the Café Indochine Restaurant at the Furama Resort Danang.  The restaurant offers an exotic mix of Vietnamese, Chinese, Malaysian, Thai, Indian and Indonesian favourites.

Many years ago, 70% of the guests at the Furama Resort Danang came from European countries, but it has now seen an increasing number of visitors from home and Asian countries.  The Café Indochine Restaurant has, therefore, decided to organise a cuisine programme entitled “Days of Food from Different Countries” to meet the demands of its customers.  Thai, Mexican and Italian cuisines were featured on 1, 2 and 3 August respectively, and on National Day (2 September) the restaurant will prepare traditional dishes from Ha Noi.  A replica country market, showcasing popular rustic dishes, is planned at the restaurant just before the 2015 Tet Festival.

In addition to the Café Indochine Restaurant, the Furama Resort boasts a 16-year-old restaurant which offers the traditional cuisine of Italy.  The popular dishes include pizza, spaghetti, tomato sauce and Italian cheeses, and their culinary ingredients are all imported from Italy.

Another high-end restaurant in the city is the La Maison 1888 Restaurant, located inside the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, and in April it was voted one of the top four most beautiful restaurants in the world.  The restaurant serves delicious dishes which showcase the quintessence of French culinary art mixed with the exquisite flavours of Asian cuisine.
