Tet Nguyen Tieu Festival
As well as Tet itself, Tet Nguyen Tieu (first full moon of the New Year) is also a good opportunity for foreigners to experience Vietnamese culture. Although this festival originates from China, Tet Nguyen Tieu has been adopted into the culture of Viet Nam and plays a significant role in Vietnamese people's cultural and religious life.
Most Vietnamese people believe that the first full moon of the New Year is the most important among all full moons throughout the year. On January 15th of the lunar calendar, people are supposed to go to pagodas and pray for good things to come to every family member and beloved friends. It is not uncommon to see people eating vegetarian food and drinking plain water on this special day. Peaceful minds and luck for the coming year are the expected outcomes.
