Playgrounds for children are in high demand, especially in big cities like Ho Chi Minh City where there is a shortage of public places for entertainment. During summer, the municipal Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union has built many playgrounds made from recycled materials for children in rural areas.

The playground is within Binh Chanh district’s children palace. It is equipped with a see-saw, swing, slide and decorations, all made from recycle items, such as tyres, bottles and plastic boxes which were cleaned and re-painted.

Nguyen Vu Bao Tram, a pupil in Tan Tuc primary school, Binh Chanh district said: "I play with see-saw and swing. I have a lot of fun."

Pham Thi Kim Yen, another pupil in the school told reporters: "The playground offers funny and safe games. It is useful to reuse items which are thrown away, such as car tyres."

The playground is a gift for children in rural areas offered by the city’s young volunteers during the Green Summer campaign 2018.

Pham Ngoc Tuan, a Volunteer said: "Children now have access to many technological advances. We want them to escape from the virtual world to exercise for a healthy body and spirit."

This type of playground not only saves installation costs but also educates children how to recycle materials, contributing to protecting the environment.

Vo Quoc Binh, a member of Organizing Board told reporters: "Through the playground, we want to improve people’s awareness of environmental protection and ensure that children in rural areas have playgrounds during summer."

The model in Binh Chanh district will be duplicated in many rural areas in Ho Chi Minh City. The model will also be implemented in remote areas in the southern Vinh Long and central Phu Yen and Binh Dinh provinces to help kids there have more fun before the new school year.
