The temple was originally made of bamboo and thatch. In the 13th year of King Tu Duc's reign (1860), Xuan Thieu villagers contributed efforts and money to rebuild the temple as it is today.
The venue was the headquarters of the revolutionary agency of Tan Hiep Commune, currently known as Hoa Hiep Commune, in the early days of fighting against French colonialism.
During the 1947-1954 period, the temple became a stopover for revolutionary cadres and soldiers of Regiments 96 and 108 when operating in the northwest side of Hoa Vang District.
In 1973, to prepare for the campaign to protect the land and people and implement the Paris Agreement, the sand dunes right behind the Ham Trung Temple became the place to gather 66 tonnes of rice to serve the revolutionary cadres and people during the campaign.
Located on a high ground, the Ham Trung Temple is surrounded by many large trees. It is charming and airy with a width of 9m and a length of 12m.
The temple has a traditional architecture of 3 compartments and 2 wings, and its roof is covered by traditional yin-yang roof tiles. On the roof of the temple is a familiar motif in architecture of Vietnamese temples with the image of two dragons worshiping the moon embossed in porcelain. The inside of the temple is divided into two parts: the main hall and the back shrine.
A ceremony is annually held at the temple on the 12th day of the 4th lunar month to pray for peace and prosperity for Xuan Thieu villagers.
In recent years, the Ham Trung Temple has become a popular red address for the city's youth in general and the youth of Hoa Hiep Nam Ward in particular, and a convergence place of ancient and modern culture and history on a land rich in revolutionary traditions.
