Laos marks 64th Media Day
The Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism organized a ceremony in Vientiane on August 12 to mark the 64th Lao Media Day (August 13).
Addressing the function, Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Savankhone Razmountry spoke highly of the press’s contribution to socio-economic development of the nation.
The press has become a reliable and diverse source of information while serving as a bridge between the Party and the people, a useful tool to promote the nation’s peaceful diplomatic policy and image worldwide, he added.
Laos currently has 11 daily newspapers, with nine published in Lao language and two in English. A total of 1,200 journalists are working in the field.
The country also has 6 TV channels including three run by the private sector and 57 radio stations.
