Malaysia will start finalising details with Singapore on the upcoming High Speed Rail (HSR) project in the first quarter of next year, Chairman of the Malaysian Land Public Transport Commission Syed Hamid Albar said after attending a recent international high-speed rail conference in Japan.

According to the official, the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) project is estimated to cost 12 billion USD, including the engine and train purchase.

Once completed, the new railway will help cut travel time between the two localities to 90 minutes in comparison to eight hours by normal train, five hours by car and 45 minutes by plane.

It is expected to flourish the two countries’ economic benefits and ease traffic congestion in inter-city railway networks.
