A Thai real estate developer has unveiled the plan to build a 125-storey office and hotel tower that would make Bangkok home to the tallest skyscraper in Southeast Asia.

The tower called Rama IX Super Tower with total value of 18 billion THB is set for completion by 2019 and may become the second tallest building in the world with 615 metres, according to Grand Canal Land (G-Land) construction company.

Baiyok Tower is now the tallest building in Thailand, which tops out at 328.4 metres on its 85th floors. The Rama IX Super Tower, if completed, would dwarf Beiyok building and be the highest building in the ASEAN region. ASEAN's current tallest building is the Petronas twin towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at 375 metres.

Bangkok Post newspaper quoted G-Land chairman Yothin Boondicharern as saying the tower will anchor the Grand Rama 9 complex, which currently has offices, a shopping mall and residential area. It offers 1.2 million sq metres of land serving 300,000 people a day and 90,000 sq metres of office space for rent.
