A 6-magnitude earthquake shook Sabah state on Borneo island of Malaysia on early June 5, but no tsunami warning is issued, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
The quake struck at a depth of 10 km with its epicentre located 54 km from Kota Kinabalu city.
The epicentre was initially determined to be at 6.084 degrees north latitude and 116.5489 degrees east longitude.
A photo being widely circulated shows glass panes believed to have been shattered during this morning's earthquake be at a local bank in Ranau, near the epicenter of the earthquake. (Source: themalaymailonline) |
No injuries and damage have been reported so far.
Strong quakes rarely occur in Malaysia though the country sits just outside the Ring of Fire – a belt of seismic activity running around the basin of the Pacific Ocean.
