Myanmar builds new drug-control policy
Myanmar is drafting a new policy in drug control as part of efforts to deal with drug problem along with crime suppression, Myanmar ’s official media reported on October 2.

First Vice President of Myanamar U Myint Swe underlined the need to associate economic, health care and development matters into the building of strategy for drug problem.
Together with the development of technology, criminals are using new methods in committing crime, terror and violance, he said.
Myint Swe called for efforts of police at all levels in solving systematic matters as well as enhancing capacity to catch up with international standards. Myanmar will organise conferences in the field with the support of the United State , he added.
Currently, Myanmar and the UN Office on Drug and Crime (UNOCD) are cooperating in counter-terrorism, with ONCD assisting Myanmar in building capacity to prevent terror.
In June, Myanmar burned an amount of drug worth 56 million USD which was seized in various places across the country, including Yangon, Mandalay , Nay Pyi Taw and Taunggyi. The Southeast Asian country has also decided to extend a plan to destroy drug to the 2018-2019 period.
