A joint statement made it clear that the flight MH370 had not been found in a search area stretching 120,000 sq.km in the Indian Ocean. Regardless of all efforts, including the use of the most advanced technology and best science available as well as modelling and advice from highly skilled experts, the search had failed to locate the plane. Therefore, the search for MH370 was officially ended.
The governments of the three countries emphasised that the end of the search, which was recommended by Malaysia at the beginning of this month, came as no new information founded to locate the plane.
However, the nations said they remain hopeful that new information will come to light and that at some point in the future the aircraft will be located.
Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 was a scheduled passenger flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. It disappeared on March 8, 2014, with 239 passengers and crew on board.
