Thailand uncovers plot to murder the Prime Minister
Thailand’s police said on March 19 that they have uncovered a plot to assassinate the country’s leader after seizing a weapon cache belonging to red shirt leader Wuthipong Kochathamakun, who has been on the run since the military coup.

National Police Chief General Jakthip Chaijinda told media that the police found a rifle with a scope, speaking clearly that the weapon were going to be used to assassinate the country’s leader, giving a hint to Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha.
Previously, on March 18, the police discovered dozens of rifles and grenades, and thousands of bullets at a house belonging to Wuthipong Kochathamakun. They also arrested nine men in connection with the arms seizure. The police said they had clear evidence that the suspects and their network were aiming to cause unrest.
Police chief Jakthip presented no other evidence of an assassination plot, but said Wuthipong and his network have always opposed the government and the group has warned on social media that the prime minister will be murdered.
According to the country’s police, the group is planning an ambush if officials still continue their operation to block Dhammakya temple in Pathum Thani province.
The police ended their search of the temple in earlier March after laying siege to it for more than three weeks without finding the Dahmmakya sect’s abbot, Phra Dhammajayo, who is wanted for suspected money-laundering.
