The seizure included 20 million meth tablets, 600,000 ecstasy pills, 200 kilograms of “ice” (crystal meth) and 9.1 kilograms of heroin, according to a report released by Myanmar authorities on August 9.
Each methamphetamine pill goes for 2-5 USD in Myanmar but its price will surge after being transported to Thailand and beyond.
On August 8, the local authorities raided four houses in Tachileik, a border town in Myanmar’s Shan state next to Thailand, and a regular sluice used to transport drugs to the Southeast Asian market. The case is being investigated.
The campaign was a joint effort of Laos, Thailand and Myanmar in the fight against drug producing and trafficking rings in Southeast Asia.
