In a statement, the ministry voiced its hope that the meeting will promote prospects for peace in the Korean Peninsula. However, it did not reveal details of preparations for the meeting.
According to experts, Singapore, Southeast Asia’s financial hub, was chosen as the venue as the country is neutral in inter-Korean issues and maintains a high security level due to frequently hosting major world summits.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said he would meet with DPRK leader Kim Jong-un by the end of May to achieve permanent denuclearisation on the Korean Peninsula.
