Singapore designates special area for US-DPRK summit
The Singaporean government announced on 4 June that it has designated a central region of the city state as a "special event area" from 10-14 June for a planned summit between US President Donald Trump and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK)’s leader Kim Jong Un.

The area comprises the districts of Tanglin, Newton and Orchard, where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the US Embassy, and several large hotels are located, including the Shangri-La hotel, which was mentioned as a possible venue for the summit.
To date, there has been no confirmation of the venue for the summit to discuss ending the DPRK’s nuclear weapons programme in return for diplomatic and economic incentives, although several Singaporean hotels have figured as candidates.
The Singaporean Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on 10 May the island state as the host of the summit between Trump and Kim on 12 June.
The selection of Singapore to host the summit could be seen as a very careful option, helping Trump and Kim avoid sensitive diplomatic issues and ensure security for the historic meeting.
