Singapore to tighten security for US-DPRK summit
Singaporean police will tighten security measures to prepare for the summit between US President Donald Trump and leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un, which is scheduled to take place on 12 June.

In a press release issued on 6 June, the Singaporean police said “special event areas” will be set up from 10-14 June under the Public Order Act at Capella hotel on the resort island of Sentosa – where the summit will be held, and Shangri-La hotel – where Trump will possibly stay.
Members of the public can expect heightened security measures, including screenings of people and vehicles, at the summit venues and areas around them, the police said.
Other security measures include the prohibition of unmanned aerial vehicles such as drones within the Enhanced Security Special Event Areas, and restrictions on vessel movements.
The announcement comes on the back of a White House confirmation that the summit will be held at the Capella hotel on Sentosa island.
This followed weeks of speculation surrounding the venue of the summit, as police declared the areas around the Shangri-La and Capella hotels as “special event areas.”
Singapore’s armed forces were ordered to make preparedness in case of emergency with the assistance of Apache helicopters and F-16 fighter jets.
Singapore’s airspace will be restricted during the planned US-DPRK summit, according to a notice to airmen posted by aviation authorities on June 6.
The notice, published on the websites of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), said airspace over Singapore will be temporarily restricted for parts of 11, 12 and 13 June.
All aircraft arriving into Singapore’s Changi Airport will be required to reduce speed and face some restrictions on runway use "for reasons of national security," the notice said.
