The Central Islamic Council of Thailand (CICOT), the Halal Standard Institute of Thailand (HSIT) and the Halal Science Centre of Chulalongkorn University are supporting the move for Thailand to become a Halal food production hub among non-Muslim nations.

The three organisations are to hold the Thailand Halal Assembly 2018 on 14 - 16 December. The event will take place on the concept “Halal Accuracy in a Bio-Economy”. It will underline Thai efforts to use technology to ensure the quality of Halal products and reduce the validation time of Halal producers from 2-3 months down to 15 days.

The assembly will include academic conferences, a meeting of international Halal validation agencies, business matching and 350 booths for products and service space, with over 100,000 people expected to attend.

HSIT Director Pakorn Priyakorn pointed out that with close to 2 billion Muslims worldwide, up to 25% of the global population, the Halal sector has great potential for Thailand, as a producer of quality raw materials.

With technological upgrades, he believes Thailand can become a leader in the Halal industry, noting it is already eighth in the world for exports of Halal food to Muslim countries with trade worth 4.3 billion USD or 120 billion THB annually.
