The victims, in their 30s, were guarding the school in Pattani province when the gun attack occurred.

Disguised as rangers visiting the school, the attackers in military uniforms opened fire at the four people, police said.

The attack happened when classes were in session and no teachers or students were hurt.

Police have set up checkpoints across the area to intercept the perpetrators.

This is the second attack happened in Pattani during the past week.

Two days ago, a 12-year-old girl was injured by a bomb on her way to school, not far from the above attack.

Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat in southern Thailand are prone to gun attacks and bombings by separatist insurgents. More than 7,000 people have been killed since 2004.
