A preparatory meeting was chaired by Chiang Mai Governor Supachai Iamsuwan and discussed support work for the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat set to take place on 16-18 January in Chiang Mai.

A committee has been established specifically to handle the event and is being headed by the governor. The committee is handling public relations, locations, medical services, security, traffic management, customs inspections and all other necessary tasks to prepare for the retreat.

The event is taking place with Thailand as the current ASEAN Chair and will focus on progress by the bloc's ongoing agenda.  It will provide an opportunity for the Kingdom to outline its vision and policies for ASEAN in 2019.
