Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the DPRK’s Workers’ Party of Korea, continued to run stories on 26 February on DPRK leader Kim Jong-un’s trip to Viet Nam for his second summit with US President Donald Trump.

The newspaper said that Kim arrived in Viet Nam’s border province of Lang Son after more than 60 hours of travelling by train all the way from Pyongyang through China. He then finished the last stretch to Ha Noi by car for the meeting with Trump on 27 February.

In an editorial on its front page, Rodong Sinmun said that the whole country has been joyful since hearing their leader left for Hanoi to attend the DPRK-USA Ha Noi Summit Viet Nam. It laid stressed on Kim’s efforts to prove his country’s value and position in the international community.

DPRK media first reported on their leader’s visit to Viet Nam on 24 February, with the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reporting that Kim started off on his special train on 23 February, departing from Pyongyang to reach Ha Noi for the summit with Trump and to pay an official friendship visit to Viet Nam.

The second DPRK-USA summit is taking place on 27-28 February, following the first summit in Singapore in June last year, during which both leaders agreed on the DPRK’s denuclearisation on the Korean peninsula in exchange for security assurance from the US.

This time round, they are expected to deal with specific steps in the DPRK’s denuclearisation measures as well as the US’ s corresponding moves such as loosening of economic sanctions against the DPRK.
