The second summit between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the US in Viet Nam’s capital city of Ha Noi will be a critical turning point for the complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula, according to President of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Moon Jae-in.

During a meeting with his senior secretaries on 11 February, President Moon Jae-in said the upcoming event will create an opportunity for the two Koreas to upgrade their relations.

He said the second summit will be a critical turning point that contributes to promoting principles agreed by the two sides, including the complete denuclearisation in the Korean Peninsula, new DPRK-US relations, and a peace regime on the peninsula.

The President expressed his hope that the second summit will become a historical event to end the confrontation between the two sides and bring peace in the peninsula.

The future of the relations between the two Koreas depends on peace and stability, he said.

DPRK leader Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump are scheduled to meet again in Hanoi on 27-28 February after their first meeting in Singapore on 12 June last year.

Earlier on 6 February, the spokesperson of the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Le Thi Thu Hang said Viet Nam stands ready to actively contribute to and cooperate with relevant sides to ensure the success for the second US-DPRK summit.
