An Indonesian woman accused of killing a citizen of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) at a Malaysian airport in 2017 was released from custody on 11 March after a Malaysia court dropped a murder charge against her.

The judge discharged Siti Aisyah without an acquittal after prosecutors said they wanted to withdraw the charge without giving a reason.

Siti Aisyah, 27, was charged along with Doan Thi Huong, a 30-year-old Vietnamese, of poisoning the DPRK citizen, whose passport name is Kim Chol, with liquid VX, a banned chemical weapon, at Kuala Lumpur airport in February 2017.

At a trial in August 2018, the prosecutors said that they had made prima facie evidence against the accused women and, therefore, called upon them to enter their defence on their respective charges before the final ruling is given.

However, the December trial of Siti Aisyah was suspended.
