5.7-magnitude quake jolts central Indonesia

A 5.7-magnitude earthquake rocked North Sulawesi province, central Indonesia, on 9 September.

According to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, the quake, which jolted at 14:18 pm (Indonesia time), was centered 27 km northeast of Melonguane sub-district in Talaud islands district with a depth of 10 km.
On September 8 morning, a 6.2-magnitude earthquake shook the area offshore Maluku province, eastern Indonesia, but no tsunami alert was issued.
Indonesia has been frequently hit by earthquakes as it lies on a quake-prone zone in the Pacific "Ring of Fire."
