A 5.4 magnitude earthquake shook the Occidental Mindoro province in the Philippines, with shaking felt in Manila.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake struck at a depth of 33 kilometres, and is likely to cause no damage, but there will be aftershocks.

The quake hitting Indonesia measured 5.1 on the Richter scale.

The Philippines and Indonesia are located on the so-called ‘Pacific Ring of Fire’, an arc of fault lines circling the Pacific Basin which are prone to frequent and large earthquakes. Volcanic eruptions also occur frequently in the region.
