Malaysian senior citizens will be allowed to get their COVID-19 booster shots via walk-in at four integrated vaccination centres in Klang Valley starting on January 19.

The country’s Health Ministry in a statement said that four integrated vaccination centres include those at World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, Ideal Convention Centre in Shah Alam, and Sokka Gakkai Hall in Klang.

The ministry said booster vaccination coverage for senior citizens aged 60 and above in Selangor, the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Penang and Sarawak had exceeded 70 percent.

The ministry said booster dose appointments at the integrated vaccination centres are scheduled for individuals who have received a full dose of AstraZeneca or Sinovac vaccines to be inoculated with the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Pfizer booster shots will also be given, especially to certain individuals such as pregnant women who have received an appointment or individuals who have contraindications to the AstraZeneca vaccine.

According to the ministry, some 41 percent of Malaysia’s adult population had received booster doses as of January 17. About 97.8 percent of Malaysians have been double vaccinated. The country has reported over 2.8 million COVID-19 infections and 31,809 related deaths.
