A project on building a power optimisation automatic control system at the crude oil distilling unit (CDU) of Dung Quat Refinery by Vietnamese engineers won a gold medal at the Seoul International Invention Fair 2017 (SIIF 2017), which recently concluded in Seoul.

The project was also awarded with a grand prize from the Malaysian Association of Research Scientists (MARS) at the event.

The project was resulted from a joint effort of engineers Dao Xuan Gioi, Nguyen Nhanh, Vuong Ngoc Trai, Phan Minh Thanh, Do Hong Quang, Bui Ta Vu, Nguyen Manh Thinh, and Nguyen Minh Canh.

It was one of Viet Nam’s 2 projects submitted to the fair, the other one was a solution to prevent flood in Ho Chi Minh City and other coastal provinces.

The two projects were among winning entries of the 2016 Viet Nam Fund for Scientific and Technological Creations (VIFOTEC) Award.

Co-organised by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and the International Federation of Inventors' Associations (IFIA), the SIIF is one of the largest annual invention fairs in the world.

The fair provides a great opportunity for innovators and inventers to promote their ideas and projects in the Asian market, an already huge and still growing market.

This year’s event brought together 632 projects from 30 countries all over the world, including the US, Russia, France, Germany, Japan, Thailand and the Republic of Korea.
