Over recent months, hundreds of fishing vessels from Da Nang and other regional central localities have been seen anchored at the Tho Quang fishing wharf and Man Quang Lagoon due to unfavourable weather conditions at sea.

In particular, the owners of many boats expressed their gratitude and sentimental attachment to local border guard forces for their active engagement in rescue activities at the anchorages.

On 13 November, for instance, boat QNg97257 from Quang Ngai Province caught fire whilst it was being anchored at the fishing wharf.  It was thought that an electrical short circuit had caused the unexpected incident.

Soon after, a total of 30 officials and men from the municipal Border Guard High Command rushed to the scene to extinguish the blaze.

The owner of the boat in distress, Mr Nguyen Dao, said that, without the timely rescue, there would have been huge damage to his boat as it was carrying a total of over 20 litters of fuel in use for its future fishing trips at that time.

Local fisherman Pham Van Thai from Son Tra District’s Nai Hien Dong Ward highly hailed local border guard forces for their great assistance for him and other fishermen whose boats are usually anchored at the wharf.

A large number of patrols and checks have been conducted by the forces to ensure security at local fishing anchorages, as well as to ensure the efficiency of fire prevention and fighting activities.

Previously, in June, local border guard forces, in promptly fashion, rescued a local citizen who incidentally fell into the water area off the Man Quang galoon.

Apart from fulfilling their assigned tasks of protecting the nation’s sovereignty over its sea and islands, as well as ensuring political security and social safety in local coastal areas, border guards have also been actively involved in other meaningful social and charitable activities.
