Street workout is popularly known as a physical activity performed mostly in outdoor parks or public facilities, for a desirable physique, fun and health benefits. It is a combination of athletics, calisthenics, and sports, and is a modern name for bodyweight workout in outdoor parks.

According to Mr. Le Duc Ri, the Team Leader of Da Nang Street workout - DNSW with more than 500 members aged 20-30, Street workout requires players to be really serious and adhere to a special diet, such as when exercising, you should not eat too full or too hungry, and as recommend, eat 40-60 minutes before training.

Players can take advantage of outdoor sports equipment such as single and double bars, or even play right between two walls in a small alley.

"For group members, we stipulate that you do not exercise when your physical condition is not good or when you are too full. There was a time when the group regularly practiced at Phuoc My and Pham Van Dong beaches during the hours from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. every day. Later, when they have mastered the basic principles, each member can practice on their own in areas near their houses such as parks, schools, gyms, and then record videos to send to the group for experience sharing.”, Mr. Ri happily said.

Established in 2015, DNSW team members regularly share simple-to-complex techniques from related to street workout.

Also according to Mr. Ri, popular movements in this sport include pull-ups, push-ups, dips and muscle-ups, combined with jumping and running to increase flexibility and health of the body. Street workout also involves some static (isometric) holds such as the human flag, front lever, back lever and planche.

As commented by Mr. Ri, this is quite effective in training muscles and improving health. Not to mention, it also promotes the spirit of conquering challenges.

Meanwhile, Tran Van Manh, 22, a member of the DNSW group, said it took him nearly 5 months to practice one-armed pull-ups combined with push-ups on the bar. “Street workout allows practitioner to freely create new movements and unique exercises for each individual. Therefore, overcoming challenges and achieving goals in each movement has helped me build a spirit of determination to conquer.”, Manh expressed.

Recently, in Da Nang, street workout has built up a healthy fitness and sports movement as more young people can express themselves, share experience and make progress together.

There are currently quite a few street workout groups distributed according to geographical location and residential area. For example, in Lien Chieu District, 2 years ago, a small group of 20-30 young members was formed who practiced regularly in the afternoon at Nguyen Tat Thanh Beach. This is an opportunity for everyone to meet and share training experiences to gradually perfect street workout skills.

Fascinated by the powerful movements of street workout, group member Tran Minh Ngoc, 19, downloaded the exercises from the Internet and learned from DNSW members. Strong hands and flexible movements on the single and double bars become the inspiration to conquer the street workout community.

Ngoc affirmed that street workout does not just stop at practicing techniques, but it also create competitions between clubs to show off their skills, while creating a bond and solidarity in this kind of sport.
