A ceremony recently took place in Da Nang to announce the amended local urban master plan towards 2030 with a vision to 2050 which was approved by the Prime Minister on 4 December 2013.  Present at the event were the Deputy Secretary of the city’s Party Committee, Mr Vo Cong Tri, the municipal People’s Committee (PC) Chairman, Mr Van Huu Chien, and the PC Vice Chairman, Mr Nguyen Ngoc Tuan.

Under the master plan, Da Nang will strive to become the nation’s most modern city by 2030, and a city specialising in international-standard finance, tourism and technology by 2050.  In addition, the city will aim to become the economic, cultural, security and defence, transportation, and tourism hub for the central region and highlands.

The specific focus will be on accelerating the growth of hi-tech and information technology industries on the western side of the city.  Top priority will be given to promoting the development of urban and rural residential areas, and key tourist attractions in the hilly and mountainous areas.  The aim is to fully tap the city's great advantages of natural resources and beautiful scenery, in combination with ensuring environmental protection and sustainable development.

The amended master plan was highly appreciated for its remarkable innovations in scale and spatial development.

The city’s population is predicted to reach about 1.6 million by 2020, around 1.3 million of whom will live in urban areas.  The figure is likely to rise to 2.5 million by 2030, including 2.3 million in urban areas.
