In an effort to attract 3.6 million tourists to Da Nang by the end of this year, the city’s tourism authorities have made great efforts to support local tourism businesses.

According to the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Centre, the city has seen positive results from its tourism promotion activities.  However, the city’s image has not been advertised effectively in its major tourist markets which include South Korea, Japan, Thailand and Russia.  Meanwhile, the funding for such activities from the city’s budget has remained low over recent years.  For this reason, the Centre has done its utmost to appeal for more cash and material donations from local businesses.

To help with the problem, the city’s authorities are considering the establishment of a Tourism Development Fund.  The Fund, which is expected to officially operate from August, is in response to the city’s “Year for Business 2014” programme.

The Fund will operate on a voluntary basis for the sake of the city’s progress and the benefit of those who are directly or indirectly involved in the local tourism sector.  In addition, it will ensure that local residents will enjoy the benefits from the city’s tourism development.  The active involvement of key tourism businesses will allow the local tourism business community to carry out tourism promotion activities worldwide.  They include SunGroup, Silvershores, VinaCapital, Vitours, VinGroup, Vietnam Airlines and Jetstar Pacific Airlines.  Furthermore, the Fund will help to create close links between local tourism businesses to promote the development of the city’s tourism sector thorough a specific financial mechanism for their benefit.

A representative of the city’s Tourism Promotion Centre stressed the need for the city’s authorities to issue instructions regarding the operation of the Fund as soon as possible.  This will help to create a legal basis for the local tourism section to appeal for donations from local organisations and individuals to increase tourism promotion activities.
