Non Nuoc stone carving village to be expanded
The Ngu Hanh Son District authorities have identified the development orientations to 2020 for the district’s Non Nuoc stone carving village.
Under the plan, the emphasis will be on expanding the village’s production activities, as well as combining the development of trade and tourism activities. Top priority will be given to promoting the important role of the district’s Stone Carving Association in finding buyers for the village’s products, and introducing the products to domestic and foreign partners. In addition, special attention will be paid to achieving an average 30% annual growth rate of products.

At present, the village’s dedicated production area is being created on a 35ha site which is away from local residential areas and tourist attractions. The area, which is expected to cost a total of 134 billion VND to construct, features synchronous infrastructure. The building of roads and the installation of water and electricity supply systems in the area have basically been completed.
Meanwhile, the construction of a 2,000m2 wastewater treatment plant, with a capacity of 1,500m3 per day, is underway. Once operational, the plant will treat wastewater containing stone polishing chemicals before it is discharged into the environment. In addition, a 25m-wide green space will be planted to become a barrier to prevent dust from the village’s production activities.
In 2013, 3 members of the village’s Stone Carving Association were honoured as eminent craftsmen by the President of Viet Nam. They are craftsmen Le Ben, Nguyen Viet Minh, and Nguyen Long Buu. A proposal to recognise the stone sculpturing at Non Nuoc village as one of the city’s traditional handicrafts was approved by the municipal authorities in April 2014.
