Upgrading urban transport infrastructure
The Da Nang Department of Transport is implementing a pilot transport infrastructure upgrade on a section of Le Duan Street. The upgrade is part of the city’s 2 million USD Urban Transport Infrastructure Improvement Project which is being funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The pilot programme will last until December at a cost of 400,000 USD.
The 600m section is between Le Duan’s intersections with Tran Phu and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai streets. Under the upgrade, the focus will be on decreasing the curb radiuses and making separate right-turn lanes to reduce delays for vehicles travelling through this section’s 5 intersections. In addition, sensor cameras which are able to distinguish between the different means of transport will be installed along the section. These cameras will automatically adjust the operation of the traffic light systems to the most effective timings. Also, the multi-phased traffic light systems at the intersections will be optimised to ensure a smoother flow of vehicles.
Within the scope of the overall project, special attention will be paid to implementing the pilot management of parking on Nguyen Van Linh Street. Traffic surveillance cameras will be also installed on this street to detect any traffic violations on the pavement. Thanks to a smart warning mechanism, images of violations will be sent to the city’s traffic management centre, in combination with the showing of these images on electronic traffic management signs installed on the pavements.
