The Da Nang authorities recently decided to revoke the investment licence for the construction of the national centre for circus and synthetic arts which was to have been developed in Hai Chau District by the Viet Nam Circus Federation.  The decision was taken after delays in implementation, and the revoked land will now be used to expand the city’s 76 billion VND Youth Park project, which encompasses Hai Chau District’s Hoa Cuong Nam Ward and Cam Le District’s Khue Trung Ward.

In December 2004, the city earmarked 352,033m2 of land in the 2 districts for the creation of the park.  However, since 2005 the municipal authorities have also approved the implementation of other projects on the park site.  They have included the Nguyen Khuyen Junior High School for Gifted Pupils, 2 residential areas, an entertainment centre for local teenagers, the headquarters of the municipal Youth Union, the centre for circus and synthetic arts, a golf course, 3 tennis courts, an area for displaying ornamental features, a construction waste dump, and an area for cleaning street dustbins.  As a result, there are now only 10.8ha of land and 8.9ha of water left for the construction of the park.

At a recent meeting, the Vice Chairman of the city’s People’s Committee, Mr Huynh Duc Tho, suggested that the construction of the Youth Park should be completed in 3 stages.  The first stage should focus on land levelling work and transport infrastructure construction, installation of lighting systems, growing trees and grass, and building other facilities.  This will initially create a green space ideal for local residents to walk and enjoy the cool breeze.  As for the remaining stages, the city should appeal for donations from local individuals and organisations to construct some entertainment facilities in the park.  Vice Chairman Tho asked the municipal Department of Construction to submit detailed plans for the park’s construction to the local authorities with the aim of starting the project as soon as possible.
