Rice and seafood prices increase
Over recent days, Da Nang has seen a slight increase in the price of rice sourced from the Mekong Delta region. The main reasons are thought to be the increasing demand from the Philippines and China, and a shortage of rice in the domestic market.
The retail price of rice in the city has increased by up to 500 VND per kg. In particular, the price of standard rice is now between 10,500 and 12,000 VND per kg, rice grown in rural areas is 11,000 VND, jasmine rice 13,000 VND, “Lai Sua” rice 16,000 VND, and “Nang Huong” rice between 15,000 and 16,000 VND.
There has also been a significant increase in the price of seafood in local markets due to the number of unexpected thunderstorms last week. For example, the price of normal mackerel has climbed by up to 60,000 VND to 240,000 VND per kg, whilst best mackerel is now 250,000 - 260,000 VND per kg. Oysters have increased by up to 7,000 VND to between 28,000 and 32,000 VND per kg. Meanwhile, the price per kg of squid is now ranging between 220,000 and 280,000 VND, regular prawns from 130,000 - 150,000 VND, and best prawns between 160,000 and 180,000 VND.
