An agreement to sell E5 bio-fuel in Da Nang has been recently signed by leaders of the city authorities, the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group, and the PetroVietnam Oil Corporation.  The new bio-fuel is a blend of 5% ethanol and 95% gasoline.

Under the agreement, the Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited in Quang Ngai Province will be responsible for producing the E5 bio-fuel and then supplying it to wholesale petrol distributors throughout the city.  The retail price per litre will be the same as the currently used Mogas 92 gasoline.

Starting from 1 November, only Mogas 95 and E5 bio-fuel will be allowed to be sold in the city.  The municipal Department of Industry and Trade will establish an interdisciplinary team to deal with any issues raised during the implementation of the above-mentioned agreement.  Local retail outlets and filling stations will have their business licences revoked for any violations.

Also at the signing of the agreement, the Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, Mr Phung Tan Viet, stressed the need for the Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Company to ensure sufficient supplies of E5 petrol as well as the quality of it.  In addition, the company was asked to assist the local petrol retail outlets and filling stations as they switch to selling the E5 petrol and upgrade their business facilities.  This will help to make a positive shift from the current consumption of Mogas 92 gasoline to that of E5 petrol in the near future.

The city is now home to 4 wholesale petrol distributors and a total of 95 retail outlets and filling stations who will all be selling E5 petrol in the future.
