Over the 2 years since the implementation of Da Nang’s support policies for developing the local tourism souvenirs industry, 12 local businesses have so far been given permission by the city’s authorities to enjoy these preferential policies in order to make tourism souvenirs for sale.  Currently, a wide range of souvenirs made from many kinds of materials are being offered to domestic and foreign visitors arriving in the city.  However, these local products have yet to fully meet the diversified demands of the visitors.

Amongst the city’s existing tourism souvenirs, Non Nuoc stone carving products are the most popular.  However, these items are relatively heavy and cumbersome, which is the main reason why many visitors are reluctant to buy them.

The Lien Tran Company, which is one of the beneficiaries of the city’s preferential policies, is focusing on creating key-rings, wooden Dragon Bridge models, tourist T-shirts and other lovely souvenirs.  The company has seen a high consumption of these items over recent months.  However, not enough dedicated tourism souvenir-selling centres have so far been established in the city.  Therefore, the company’s products are now being sold in hotels across the city where visitors can find and buy them easily, and this souvenir provider often receives orders from local travel agencies for presents to give their foreign clients.

Currently, the city is facing a severe shortage of special tourism souvenirs which feature distinctive characteristics of the culture, land and people of Da Nang.  The main reason for this problem is that making tourism souvenirs at many local businesses has mainly depended on their financial status, their existing production technologies, and the professional skills of their workers.  Meanwhile, no special attention has been paid as yet to satisfying the visitors’ demand for this type of tourism products.  In reality, many visitors to the city said that they want to buy something special, compact and convenient.
