The wooden-hulled fishing boat DNa 90719 TS, owned by Le Van Nhan from Son Tra District’s Nai Hien Dong Ward, will be launched on 23 September.

This is the first fishing boat in Da Nang to be built under Government Decree No 67/2014/ND-CP regarding fisheries development policies which allows Vietnamese fishermen to access loans for building new boats.

The boat was built at a cost of over 10 billion VND.  Of this, 7 billion VND was loaned from a credit package offered by the decree, whilst the remainder came from Mr Nhan’s own family.

The boat’s captain, Le Van Quanh, said that his boat would make its first offshore trip in October and it will operate in the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa waters catching ocean tuna, mackerel and large salmon by drag netting.

Mr Quanh is expecting a bumper catch on his first trip, and said that this would bring benefits and confidence to the new boat’s crew members.

Apart from Mr Nhan’s new wooden-hulled boat, three steel-hulled fishing vessels are now being built in the city.  They are owned by fishermen Le Van Sang from Hai Chau District’s Thuan Phuoc Ward, Tran Van Muoi from Son Tra District’s Man Thai Ward, and Nguyen Suong from Son Tra District’s Nai Hien Dong Ward.

The district authorities across the city are concentrating on encouraging more local fishermen to take advantage of Government Decree No 67/2014/ND-CP.

It is hoped that Da Nang will have a strong group of ‘Decree No 67’ fishing boats in the future.  This will help local fishermen raise their incomes as well as join efforts to firmly safeguard the country's sovereignty over its sea and islands.
