Viet Nam’s automobile sales in September shot up 17% from previous month, amounting to 21,366 units, according to the Viet Nam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA).

During the month, the number of passenger cars sold increased 24% against August to 12,789 vehicles, commercial vehicle sales rose 5.9% to 7,594 units and special-purpose cars sales up 29.5% to 983 units.

They were sold by both VAMA members and completely-built-up (CBU) non-VAMA member car importers.

The sales of domestically- assembled cars were estimated at 15,936 units, up 18% from last month. Meanwhile, the industry recorded a 15% rise in the purchase of imported CBUs to 5,430 cars, up 15%.

The Truong Hai Auto Corporation (THACO) continued to make up the largest portion of the automobile market (38%) with 7,357 cars sold in the month. It was followed by Toyota with 4,670 cars (24%) and Ford with 1,888 units (9.8%).
