The steel-hulled fishing boat DNa 90767 TS, owned by the family of 35-year-old fisherman Nguyen Suong from Son Tra District’s Nai Hien Dong Ward, was launched on Sunday.

The new boat was built under Government Decree No 67/2014/ND-CP regarding fisheries development policies which allows Vietnamese fishermen to access loans to build new boats.

The 823CV, 25.2m-long, 6.5m-wide and 3.5m-high boat was built at a cost of 17.5 billion VND.  Of this, 16.5 billion VND was loaned from the city’s branch of the Bank for Foreign Trade of Viet Nam, whilst the remainder came from Mr Suong’s family.

Mr Suong said, “Designed by the Viet Nam Marine Design Institute and based on my own personal ideas, the new boat is currently the most modern of its kind in Viet Nam.  Most notably, it boasts less vibration than other similar fishing boats in order to increase its seaworthiness”.

He continued, “My boat will operate in the Tonkin Gulf, and the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa waters catching seafood by drag netting.  Mr Nguyen Truc from Quang Ngai Province will be the captain.  The boat is expected to make its first offshore trip in the middle of the 4^th lunar month with 10 crew members on board”.
