Currently, Da Nang is home to over 17,000 businesses, around 16,500 of which are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with total registered capital worth 90,000 billion VND in total.

However, most of the local SMEs are facing a severe lack of stable production premises, so they have no choice but to create their products in residential areas. This causes air, noise, and environmental pollution in the city.   This unsolved problem always causes a headache for the local authorities.

The city now has 6 dedicated industrial parks (IPs) covering a total area of over 1,000ha, but most of them have no offices for rent.  Some businesses in IPs find it very hard to expand their production capacity.

In order to solve the problem, by 2020 the city is planning to build 4 more IPs covering a total area of over 1,600ha.  They are the 2nd phase of the Hoa Cam IP covering around 180ha, the 550ha Hoa Nhon IP, the 700ha Hoa Ninh IP, and the 227ha Hoa Son IP.  The selection of the IPs’ developers is scheduled to be completed later this year.

Mr Le Tuan Khanh, Head of the Planning Management and Construction Office, said “The construction cost of the new 4 IPs will come from domestic and foreign investment.  Top priority will be given to appealing for foreign infrastructure investors who boast environmentally-friendly industries”.

A representative from the Management Board of the local IPs suggested that the new Hoa Nhon, Hoa Son and Hoa Ninh IPs should earmark several 100ha areas for foreign investors from such countries as the USA, Japan and South Korea.

In addition to the 4 new IPs, the city will develop 8 small industrial areas in Hoa Vang and Lien Chieu districts for its small and very small-sized businesses.

All the above-mentioned efforts by the city’s authorities will help the city to promote the local industrial sector in the context of Viet Nam signing numerous trade agreements with foreign countries to benefit domestic production and export businesses.
