According to a spokesperson for the Environmental Protection Office of the municipal Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, the Department has made suggestions to the city authorities to use a leachate treatment model developed by Ha Noi’s SEEN Technologies Corporation. The aim is to make the daily minimum and maximum levels of leachate treatment at the waste dump 500 cubic metres and 700 cubic metres respectively.
In attempting to eliminate unpleasant odours from the dump, the Department will install odour treatment systems at the site’s anaerobic and aerobic ponds, the equalisation tank, and the stripping towers. Most notably, these systems will operate based on the combination of chemical and biological methods in order to strictly obey the national technical regulations relating to the processing of, and disposal of, wastewater.
With regard to dealing with the volume of sludge arising from the sedimentation basins at the dump, the sludge will first be thickened before being transported to landfill areas at the site. Wastewater occurring from the thickening process will be treated at the dump’s new leachate treatment plant.
