On Wednesday, Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Tuan met with a group of representatives from the World Bank (WB) to discuss a pre-feasibility study on a project to relocate Da Nang’s railway station to Lien Chieu District’s Hoa Minh Ward and associated urban redevelopment.  The project is expected to cost nearly 640 million USD.

The WB representatives proposed that the local authorities should choose railway station relocation plan 1A to match the city’s future overall development planning.  Under the plan, the new 33ha passenger terminal will be located in Lien Chieu District’s Hoa Minh Ward, whilst the 25ha freight terminal will be in the district’s Hoa Hiep Nam Ward.

Mr Craig Andrew Crazny, a WB expert on urban planning, promised that his organisation would work closely with the city authorities to begin the project as soon as possible.

According to the pre-feasibility study, the new location of the railway station would help to develop a green transport infrastructure link with the city centre, as well as connect the soon-to-be-built Lien Chieu Port to the industrial parks on the northern side of the city.  This will help to make Da Nang a green city in the near future, with a near perfect local public transport system.

In reply, Vice Chairman Tuan agreed with the WB about the proposed railway station relocation plan.  He also noted that the project will help to save travel time, protect the local environment, ease traffic congestion, and reduce the number of traffic accidents.

Representatives from the city authorities will work with the Ministry of Transport to identify specific tasks for relevant local agencies in order to deploy the project effectively.
