Hoi An begins solar electricity-fueled lighting project
Quang Nam Province's Hoi An City has started the construction of a solar energy-based electricity supply system to operate local sound and lighting system.

The project has a total investment of 145,000 euros, 90% of which comes from the German government and the remainder is sourced from Hoi An's budget and Germany’s Wernigerode City.
Under the project, solar panels will be installed in the Song Hoai Square, and they will be capable of producing 55kWh for lighting system to serve such local entertainment activities as street arts, folk games, decorative lanterns, and the Cau bridge relic.
The Vice Chairman of the Hoi An People’s Committee, Mr Nguyen Van Son, remarked that Hoi An and Wernigerode share many similarities in many aspects, and they have cooperated in such aspects as culture and environment.
Wernigerode city has helped Hoi An appeal for financial aid from the German Ministry for Cooperation and Development to implement the solar energy project.
The project is expected to help Hoi An develop its sustainable tourism sector in line with its strategy of becoming an eco-culture-tourism city in Viet Nam.
