Food prices fall after Tet
Only a week after the Tet Festival ended, the prices of food products in Da Nang’s markets have fallen in comparison with before Tet.

At local markets, the price of rice per kg is now ranging between 10,000 VND and 13,000 VND, sugar is between 18,000 VND and 20,000 VND, whilst cooking oil is being sold at between 33,000 VND and 35,000 VND per litre.
Meanwhile, the price per kg of mackerel has reduced from between 280,000 VND and 350,000 VND to around 200,000 VND and 250,000 VND, whilst a kg of scad, greater amberjack and snakehead fish is 40,000 VND, 35,000 VND, and 60,000 VND respectively.
Medium-sized prawns are being sold at up to 130,000 VND per kg, chicken is up to 150,000 VND per kg, and beef is around 250,000 VND per kg. The price per kg of salad is now ranging between 20,000 VND and 30,000 VND, whilst Da Lat-grown carrots and potatoes are available at up to 25,000 VND and 30,000 VND respectively.
According to the Management Board of the Hoa Cuong Wholesale Market, in these days after Tet, the market has seen an abundance of agricultural products, fruit and vegetables transported from localities nationwide, amounting to around 600 tons per day. The intention is to meet the increasing demands of locals for agricultural products during the 1st lunar month and during the Quan The Am (Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva) Festival which will take place in the city between the 17th and 19th days of the 2nd lunar month (14 - 16 March).
The Director of the municipal Department of Industry and Trade, Mr Phan Van Kha, remarked that his department has recently urged the city’s Market Management Board to exert greater efforts in the fight against smuggling and trade fraud, and to stop the sale of counterfeit, poor-quality, and prohibited items for the benefit of local consumers.
