On Wednesday, the family of fisherman Nguyen Than from Da Nang’s Son Tra District launched a logistics trawler for deep-sea fishing trips off the Hoang Sa Islands after taking 7 months to build.

The over 910CV wooden ship was built at a cost of over 5 billion VND (US$221,000), of which 800 million VND ($35,000) was from the city’s budget.  

The 21.5m-long, 6.3m-wide ship was designed to accomodate a 12-member crew.

The boat was built at the city-based Sea Technology Company’s shipyard.

The city aims to develop a fleet of 400 trawlers by 2020, most equipped with global positioning and fish-detection systems.
