On Thursday, a seminar took place in Da Nang to discuss ways to boost cooperation between countries along the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) in developing their trade and service activities.

The event was jointly organised by the Department of Industry and Trade, and Socio-Economic Development Research Institute, in Da Nang.

In the spotlight were discussions about the impacts of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) on the performance of the 4 EWEC countries since its establishment in late 2015, and cooperation programmes between Viet Nam and the other EWEC countries, namely Myanmar, Laos and Thailand.

The participants also together discussed mechanisms and policies to create a more open and favourable investment environment to attract more investors to the EWEC countries.  In addition, the prospects of cross-border trade activities, and plans for boosting cooperation in tourism and logistics services amongst the EWEC countries were represented.

Currently, 30 businesses in Da Nang are maintaining trade relationships with their partners in other EWEC countries.

Most notably, over recent years have seen a year-on-year rise in the import-export turnover between Da Nang and other EWEC countries.  Between January and June, Da Nang’s imports and exports with other EWEC countries hit 18.5 million USD and 27.6 million USD respectively.
