Enhancing environmental impact assessments in natural resource management

DA NANG Today
Published: August 11, 2017

On Thursday, a total of 60 representatives from South Korea, Japan and China, and over 80 domestic experts gathered in Da Nang for an international seminar to share their experiences in environmental protection and the management of natural resources.

The event was jointly organised by the Viet Nam Association for Environment and Nature Protection, and the environmental impact assessment (EIA) agencies in the 3 foreign countries.

There were discussions about regulations about environmental impact assessment fees in Viet Nam, the management of social and environmental monitoring activities whilst implementing development projects in developing countries worldwide.

Also, the impacts of global warming and biological climate in South Korea, and the evaluation of natural habitats for types of butterflies in Japan, were represented at the event.

The Da Nang participants remarked that, in 2008, the city leaders officially approved the implementation of a project for developing Da Nang into an environmentally friendly city in the near future.  The focus has been on reducing the city’s environmental pollution and degradation, as well as enhancing its ability to handle environmental incidents.

Over recent years, relevant local agencies have paid special heed to conducting EIA activities in the planning and management of natural resources, the environment and biodiversity for the sake of the city’s progress.
