An Thuong Quarter to become Street of Foreigners
An Thuong Quarter in Da Nang’s Ngu Hanh Son District is now home to a total of 141 tourism services providers, including 64 accommodation establishments, 43 eating and drinking venues, 12 shops, 8 beauty salons, and 6 gyms.

Between January and September last year, accommodation establishments in this quater welcomed a total of 267,848 visitors, 74,077 of whom were foreigners, making up around 30% of the total. In detail, such these establishments hosted around 1,488 foreigners a day during the peak season (between April and September) and 651 visitors each day in the low season.
According to representatives from some local accommodation providers, recent years have seen an annual average growth rate of 30% in the number of domestic and foreign tourist arrivals, with up to 90% of them have come back to this area. The majority of the visitors are from South Korea, Japan, the US, France, Australia, and England.
Municipal Tourism Department Deputy Director Nguyen Xuan Binh, remarked that accommodation establishments here are very attractive to foreigners because they offer a wide range of exciting water sports, including windsurfing and parasailing.
In attempting to meet the diversified entertainment demands of visitors, approval has been given by the municipal People’s Committee (PC) to develop the quarter into the first tourism area catering to night-time shopping and entertainment.
This project will be bounded by 4 main streets, namely Hoang Ke Viem to North, Ngo Thi Sy to the South, Chau Thi Vinh Te to the west, and Vo Nguyen Giap to the east.
Once operational, the quarter will become the city’s ‘Pho Tay’ (Street of Foreigners) which offers various drinking and eating services, and attractive night-time entertainment activities for foreign visitors.
Mr Tran Minh Tuan, a manager of a coffee shop on Tran Bach Dang street highlighted the significance of the project because the city is still facing a shortage of night-time entertainment areas for visitors, especially foreigners.
Mr Rich Martin from the UK who has been living and working in the city for over 1 year, said that streets of foreigners have been established in such Vietnamese localities as Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang. Such these streets, which feature many bars and pubs, are ideal places for foreigners to meet with each other, and to enjoy relaxing moments.
Ngu Hanh Son District PC Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Anh Thi remarked that the focus will be on encouraging local accommodation providers to ensure clear space on pavements for pedestrians, and to create more green spaces.
In addition, importance will be attached to guaranting the absolute safety of visitors, and ensuring the effective management of the local tourism service providers to make sure that their operational activities in accordance with Vietnamese laws.
