On behalf of the city leaders, Vice Chairman Tuan proposed that the Ministry and relevant government agencies should submit related reports, as soon as possible, to the Prime Minister for approval about the options for funding the relocation of the city’s railway station and the pre-feasibility study of the deep-sea Lien Chieu Port.

Besides, the city leaders also underlined the need for the Ministry to give the green light to the extension of the depth of existing navigation channels at the Tien Sa Port, thereby enabling deadweight tonnage (DWT) ships to pass through there.

Furthermore, the Ministry was asked to give the go-ahead to the implementation of the East-West Economic Corridor No 2 (EWEC2) project, the upgrade of the existing 14B and14G highways, the expansion of the city’s international airport into its western side, and the building of a railway route connecting Da Nang with Hue for the sake of boosting the 2 localities’ tourism.

In reply, Minister The highlighted a must-do to implement the Lien Chieu Port project in a quickly fashion.

He also asked agencies under the management of his Ministry to work with the Da Nang Department for Transport to complete and submit reports to the Prime Minister for approval about the pre-feasibility study of the Lien Chieu Port.  This is a major cargo port through which general and container cargo, and liquid products will be transported.

Following instructions from Minister’s The, the Viet Nam Maritime Administration will be responsible for completing the extension of the depth of existing navigation channels at the Tien Sa Port no later than 2019.

The Ministry leader also instructed the Viet Nam Railway Authority to incorporate the relocation of the city’s railway station with the North-South express railway project.

Also, the Viet Nam Railways will be in charge of conducting research activities into the building of a railway route connecting Da Nang with Hue featuring high-quality train carriages catering for passengers, especially visitors.

As for the expansion of the city’s international airport into its western side, the national government official emphasised the need to implement the project into different stages in an effective and reasonable manner.

During his working trip to Da Nang, Minister The recently paid an inspection visit to the construction sites of some sections of the Da Nang- Quang Ngai Express project using the loans from the World Bank (WB).

It is reported that 71% of the construction work of these sections has to date been completed.

According to the Viet Nam Expressway Corporation (VEC), the project’s developer, amongst the biggest obstacles to the construction progress of the project are the clearance and compensation work and the main contractors’ shortage of capital.

As his issuance of the ‘ultimatum,’ for this project, Minister The underlined the importance of VEC's efforts in handling the above-mention issues arising from the implementation of the project in a bid to ensure that the whole project must be completed by late June this year.
